Which profession would I have chosen if I had not become a musician?
I think I would have to say an artist of some sort as I love letting my imagination run away with me. Either that or a lawyer as I tend to enjoy arguing (constructively if course!) with my friends and family.

The composer I like least of all:
Well anyone can compose something if they want to - but I am a pretty awful composer and frustratingly held back by terrible keyboard skills.

The composer or the music I like most at the moment:
It's always J.S. Bach - incredibly he has written something for every mood or moment in my life so far. I still can scarcely believe that he was a real, normal human being, to have such a great gift.

This dish I cannot withstand:
I cannot stand eating certain kinds of sushi. I love sushi in general but when I get ambitious with my choices I sometimes discover something that I must spit out immediately - so great is the level of repulsion. (I think it might be Sea Urchin?!) This is not an ideal scenario if I'm being entertained in a smart restaurant!!

My ideal from history:
My idol from History could possibly be Queen Elizabeth the first. In a time of barbarity and lawlessness, she introduced and championed amazing creativity and artistic achievement, and all in the face of the supposed disadvantage of being a woman.

A book I would recommend:
I love all of John Le Carre's spy novels. They are chilling and thrilling in equal measures. Perfect for when I am on the road touring.

If I were Queen of England I would ...
Aspire to be as I described Elizabth 1st! And make wearing the costumes and gowns of the time compulsory for all citizens ... How glamorous!

Auf der „alten“ Barocktrompete wie auf der modernen Trompete ist sie ein neuer, absoluter Super-Star: Alison Balsom aus England. Seit 2006 hat sie sich einen prestigeträchtigen Preis nach dem anderen erspielt. 2006 wurde sie zum „Best Young British Performer“ ernannt und war Preisträgerin bei den „Gramophone Awards“. 2007 war sie ECHO-Klassik-Preisträgerin, 2009 wurde sie als erste Engländerin zum „Female Artist of the Year“ gekürt. Ihre Ausbildung erhielt Alison Balsom an der Guildhall School of Music in London, am Pariser Conservatoire und bei dem Star-Trompeter Hâkan Hardenberger.

Als Solistin konzertiert sie heute mit einem allumfassenden Repertoire von Albinoni bis Zimmermann, wobei sie u.a. auftrat mit dem City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, mit dem Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, mit dem Orchestre de Paris, mit dem Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra und mit dem San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Zu ihren jüngsten CD-Einspielungen zählen Aufnahmen der populären Trompetenkonzerte von Joseph Haydn und Johann Nepomuk Hummel mit der Deutschen Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
